Great to hear! Apologies for the poor video quality. Next time I will have my studio internet up and running.
Anyhow, have fun smoke firing!! I look forward to seeing your results.

We just found a source for slightly used house brick! Yah! My husband will pick it up this afternoon. I am looking forward to rewatching the class now that the videos are available. Things are happening here in South Hero, Vermont!

Hi Paula
for me the connection failed on both ends
and when I was able to reconnect I had just missed how you smoked the piece in aluminum foil with newspaper. It had just some strips of paper and then it was wrapped tightly around the piece? Also, how did you manage to smoke black only half of that piece? Was it due to the surface…

Yes, it is such a simple way to final fire ceramics. I hope you learned some tips and tricks for smoke firing your work in your own back yard.

Thank you so much! I do apologize for my slow and spotty internet connection. Let me know how your own experience with back yard smoke firing goes. Enjoy! Clay is the BEST.

I loved the simplicity of the house brick kiln! I currently work in a studio that fires using raku methods often – at times it feels more rule-bound. I love the result and have often thought about trying it at home. I am glad to know the many possibilities without a grand raku kiln.

For me it was all repetition, but it was a very well taught and super inspirational class!
Longing to make more backyard firings again! Would love to also test larger pieces like that in an electric kiln, haven’t tried that.

Paula Shalon’s workshop on Backyard Firing was worth the price of admission. I can’t wait to get the recording so I can watch it again. Mind blowing – what did you think?
