I am fascinated by the undersea world and my pottery is an attempt to capture that magic. While clay and glaze are solid forms, I love how it can be used to express fluidity. My favorite use of clay to capture the watery movement is through the amazing octopus. Many of my thrown pieces are embellished with tentacles or entire creatures. My ceramic roots are in sculpture, but I love combining the function of thrown pieces with decorative elements of handbuilding. My goal is to refine. my throwing skills and explore alternative firing methods – raku, salt, soda, saggar, and pit.
I am a special education teacher by week and potter by weekend. Well, every free moment really. I started playing with clay as a child, explored more of the medium in college, and now I get muddy as often as I can. I have enjoyed selling my pieces on Etsy and at craft fairs, but truly the joy of creating with clay is what keeps me going.
