Working from her garden studio in South Glasgow, Katie Rose Johnston crafts small batch, sculptural ceramics that are influenced by Archaeology, the Natural Sciences and the raw, windswept landscape of her birthplace Shetland. Mudlarking for ancient artefacts, foraging and crafting from nature start as material research in her practice, as well as experimentation with form, colour and texture.
Katie Rose Johnston utilises bright colours, textures and organic forms to create immersive, playful installations that challenge the perceptions of craft, the woman and the domestic environment. Having recently graduated in Sculpture with a First Class Honours degree from The Glasgow School of Art, Katie has exhibited across the UK including exhibitions at the Cello Factory in London and The Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Recently Katie was Artist in Residence for Deveron Projects, Huntly, where she worked closely with local residents to create The Community Crockery.
