I work with ceramics in a design context, with a hands-on, studio potter approach. Although I hold a masters in Ceramic Design, where a mainly focused on tablewear and the htraditions of making with local Stoke-on-Trent industry techniques, such as slip casting, I now aim to become more experimental with form, technique and process, leaning towards art and away from function and am developing a more environmentally aware practice.
My lecturing role in art and design at Manchester Metropolitan University brings many inspirations to my work outside of ceramics. I am a keen drawer, I use my pots as canvas, illustrating buildings and people in my locality. I am inspired by architectural form and space, structure and detail, local heritage and the history of everyday things and places.
