The artist is interested in functional work including stoneware tableware, occasional large or art pieces, sculpture, illustration, watercolor, and lathe turned wood. He works as an art instructor and owns Red Star Pottery in Shreveport, Louisiana. He works with his wife, Christine, and son Gabriel at the pottery.

Curtis has been a professional artist, illustrator, woodworker, potter, and art instructor since 1997. He specializes in functional pottery, tableware, and ceramic urns. Most work is stoneware. The artist fires in a variety of kiln types including: electric, gas, wood, pit firing, and raku kilns. The artist has been employed as a Public School teacher for 23 years and currently teaches at Caddo Parish Magnet High School where his is the head of the ceramics department, teaches Art 1, AP 3D art, and Project Talent Sculpture courses.
Curtis has shown his work at numerous group and one man shows. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.
