Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Make the Bird Shape with Tinfoil

Start by crumpling some tinfoil into the shape of a little bird. Think of an oval for the body and a smaller bump for the head. You can pinch the foil at the back to create a tail and shape a little beak at the front. Don’t worry about it being perfect!

Step 2: Cover the Foil with Clay

Roll out your air-dry clay into a thin sheet (not too thick—it’s just for covering). Gently wrap the clay around your foil bird. Press it down so it sticks and smooth out any lines with your fingers.

Step 3: Add the Wire for Hanging

Before the clay dries, take a small piece of wire and stick it into the top of the bird’s back, creating a loop. This will let you hang your bird later!

Step 4: Add Details

Use your fingers or a toothpick to shape and smooth the bird’s wings, tail, and beak. You can even add little textures to the wings or tail feathers with a skewer or toothpick.

Step 5: Make the Christmas Hat

Roll a small cone out of clay for the Christmas hat. Flatten the base so it sits snugly on the bird’s head. Add a tiny ball of clay at the tip for the pom-pom. Attach the hat to the bird with a bit of water, pressing it gently so it stays put.

Step 6: Let It Dry

Place your bird on a flat surface and let it dry completely. This might take a day or two, so be patient!

Step 7: Paint Your Bird

Once dry, it’s time to bring your bird to life with color! Use acrylic paints to decorate it however you like—maybe a red hat, a cheerful yellow body, or even glittery wings. Let the paint dry before handling it.

Step 8: Add a String and Hang It Up

Thread a string through the wire loop, tie a knot, and your bird is ready to hang on your Christmas tree!

That’s it! Now you have a festive little bird with a Christmas hat to brighten up your tree. 🎅🐦✨ Happy crafting!
