About Me

Born in Argentina, living in Uruguay. Ceramic artist since 1988. Member of the International Academy of Ceramics since 2017.

What I Love about Ceramics

What I love about ceramics?

The freedom that allows me to create. The uncertainty of waiting the pieces out of the kiln. The magic of the fire transforming your ideas into reality. Sometimes ugly realities, but always interesting.

How I started with ceramics

I was randomly walking through my neighborhood , escaping from my new father in law, who was  very demanding of attention, when I saw a sign “Ceramic Lessons by Alejandra Jones”. And there I went…34 years ago and still grateful to my annoying ex-father in law.

What inspires me

I never know where my inspiration begins. It is random. Generally an idea pops up in my head and after that the title. Sometimes is the other way around.

What I'm working on at the moment

I´m in a transition of works. I recently moved from Argentina to Uruguay, so I´m waiting for new images in my mind.

My Artist Statement

As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, I am constantly aware of the finitude of life. You can see it in my work Condenados (Condemned) that was unconsciously dedicated to my father, and in the latest work Tetas (Tits) where I play with the idea of the beauty and delicacy of a breast, meaning life and nutrient of it, and the bugs that represent an illness. Also adding the eyes of Renaissance women, as the iconics Venus of Botticelli or the Mona Lisa, as the parameter of beauty
